Overall research agenda
A key concern of research policy is how to efficiently enable the production, dissemination and use of high level scientific knowledge to address current and future societal challenges. This concern frames the policy debates and lies behind most changes of the governance of the research system. While this policy issue in essence is very practical, it is also confronted with one of the most fundamental questions regarding the effects of research policy on knowledge production: How do specific policy configurations influence the practices and the results of the production of scientific knowledge? To explore this link requires a nuanced understanding of the dynamics of the research system combining micro-, meso- and macro level effects.
In R-Quest we address this through three research questions investigated in four interlinked strands of research. The figure below illustrates the organisation of the centre, the research topics and the common methods.
